As we walk on this earth, our mind will more likely collide with some ideas, experiences, and not mentioning our own perspectives that is being developed over time and making some time more interesting (or more challenging, for some people).
Happiness is a concept that we as humanity has confirmed so far as the ultimate goal. It is the feeling our mind and body receive in result of experiencing happiness (or maybe gratification) that makes us crave it ever more being in the middle of chaotic phenomenon called life.
How to get more happiness in life, you ask, if happiness itself will be in different state and form from us and everybody else? Those are some scientifically approved habits that will help spark the little joy and happiness in our life. Work them out, try and inject them within your daily routine and if a habit won’t fit in your life, just leave them and try another one. No one thing should be the same for two person or more, am I right?
Smile when you are happy and also smile when you want to be happy. It’s a two-way street, actually. Smiling causes the brain to release dopamine, which makes us even more happier. Maybe a fake smile could help, maybe not. But when we mean it, try to strike a smile at the first time in the morning.
2. Exercise and Plenty of Sleep
Exercising help our mind and body in many ways, strengthening the muscle we use and also reducing stress and help tackling depression on its feet. As long as the exercise was also fun to do, it will bring even more joy along the way.
Some short yet continuous fun physical activities are the ones we need, such as walking, bowling, dancing, or relaxing yoga. Sleeping, on the other hand, replenishes our energy, healing our body, and resetting the mind, allowing us to those useful exercises again in the next day. So it is important that we sleep around 7 or 8 hours every night, getting sleep and waking up at the same time.
3. Food for the Mind, Literally
No other quick way to fuel our body and affect our mental state in the same time than eating healthy food. Carbohydrates release serotonin and high protein food release dopamine and norepinephrine. But, some food in high sugar and highly processed ones will let you
feeling down after getting an instant boost and the energy crash shortly after. Try choosing and swapping one or two items with the healthy ones everyday and your whole body and mind will thank you.
4. Gratitude and Compliment
These two things here mean giving thanks to ourselves and other people. Study says that practicing gratitude can improve our feeling with hope and happiness. Giving compliment itself serves in two ways, while improving the mood of the one receiving it, it will surely boost our own. Practicing kindness towards ourselves and others around us proves to be helpful for our mental being and state of happiness.
5. Reconnect with Ourselves and Others
Meditate, having a me-time, meeting friends and families, volunteering, or even playing with pets and kids will increase our happiness because a meaningful relationship goes a long way.
Having someone or something to rely on is important, even if it was our own selves, for the benefit of our well being, The hopeful feeling we acquire will get us on the way to a healthy mental state.
Forming those habits and sticking to them is hard, but with a better attitude and goal, also with the direct benefits we get, surely worth the struggle. Study says it will take at least 3 weeks to make a habit sticks in our daily lives. You could use any proven and popular method in forming a habit such as the ones according to James Clear’s Atomic Habits, Brian Tracy’s Eat That Frog, etc.
After all, it’s our own happiness and whole body and mind will get affected in a positive way. When we are happy, others will be too, and the world would be an even better place than before.
